HO Scale 50' GARX Reefer Atlas Master Product Spotlight
#hoscale #AtlasRR #HOScale #ProductSpotlight #TSGMultimedia
This HO scale 50' reefer comes from the Master series by Atlas and it has some very nice freestanding detail.
From Atlas's web site: A joint effort from General American and Evans Products, these AAR class bunkerless refrigerator cars were produced beginning in the early 1950s. Featuring two large horizontal panels flanking a 7’7” door, these cars had a very unique appearance due to the horizontal rivet strip that joined the panels. With fewer seams than a standard box car, these cars were supposed to be less prone to rust and leakage. By 1959, over 1,000 of these boxcars were produced.

This is an operations-based layout with a full CTC machine which ...

I think you are supposed to undo a screw to loosen the truck then slot the other car on. On my set the screws are so tight as to be impossible to undo without damaging the cars. I will go with removing the detail part I think!!
Excellent video! Thank you!
Glad you liked it!
I’m in my late 50s and haven’t owned but a few old Rapido HO pieces and have always been given the perception that Rapido was really junk. Have I always been incorrect in thinking so? This locomotive is beautiful and this video is making me want one of their locomotives! Great video and the model has good sound! And how fun are the “bonus” sfx!?
Thanks John! See you later!
Great video and History captured here! 🚂
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for a great review. I appreciate the weight info. A really nice looking boxcar.
Loved the historical accuracy and lack of clutter Thank you and anxiously awaiting further modeling
Great job on the tour Mike!!!
As far as weight. The more information the better, thanks😊 !
That stuff you used on the scenery looks like vermiculite.
Nice but it wobbles! I dislike when I have to do a modification on a brand new car, but it happens a lot even with high end freight cars.
Yes, but it's really not that big of a deal to tighten one screw, right?
@@tsgmultimedia that does not always fix it. I usually add a washer under each screw. I don't like to file the bolster.
I had a roommate when I went to college at Sacramento State University in 1978 who came from a WP family. Rich Wall. HIs father and grandfather worked for the WP.
i got two won't move sent back to atlas
👍👍👍
Hi molly
What a fantastic history lesson. Waiting for a part 2.
I just got this train today! I’m very exited to use it
Fun fact - Big Boy is actually longer than the Cheyenne turntable by over 6 feet! There’s 3 feet of overhang on both ends of the 4014 when it’s on the table!
The weather blessed you all by making the steam so beautiful.
Would you be interested in letting people operate a locomotive on your layout, remotely? A great opportunity to generate revenue.
Very nice!
Thank you for sharing
How about a surveillance cam with a monitor on the heli?
I own 3 of those Intermountain Cab Forwards, one with sound, and I have never got them to run well. Because the main problem is poor continuity. The pickups for power do not do a good job They stall on switches, crossings and curves. When the sound engine loses electrical even for a second, it shuts down the sound system. Improved contacts would be a good would be a good start, with a keep alive capacitor as a back up. Another problem is the lead truck.. it just flops all over a and derails. It needs a strong spring to keep it on the tracks. I tried attaching some small lead weights on the truck, but it wasn't enough weight. I admit, they are a well detailed engine, too bad they don't run well. Intermountain was offering a set of low-profile wheels that would run on code 55. Apparently, the driver flanges are small enough, but the lead, trailing truck, and tender trucks needed their wheels switch out.
These places also have kids with their Thomas the train tots and roll them along the track N scale is really placed at a high level because of its size being really small and it can be mistaken for a toy
So at 10 years old I think I got my first ho scale model train A BNSF sw800 switcher Since BNSF was my favorite railroad at the time It ran well and I loved it There was also a $200 coupon to the train shop in Santa Clara i spent all of mine on a military train consist and one oil tanker car They are still a round But the switcher was small and I wanted those mainline engines So a few years later in 2023 I went to the train shop to get a chassis for my old sp sd40t-2 shell They don’t sell kits anymore because people prefer them as complete models And I though “ well we can’t just go to the train shop for nothing “ And I found something This southern pacific GE u28cg I bought it and I still have it
And yes they do have a lot of kids I remember I was like 6 or 7 when I became a member I loved running the trains and u kept my hands off of the miniatures and never put them in my mouth cause back then and still now I though it was disgusting and I would throw it up immediately and still keep on throwing up Anyways I ran their trains usually And sometimes my brothers My brother (Mateo ) had a lot of ho scale model trains I had none I though he could give me one of them But he said No And slot of ho scale model trains cost so much these days and my parents wouldn’t get me one
A few years ago I ran a Amtrak train around the layout Like a express service and parked it in the small staging yard in the loop A girl who was operating a Santa Fe intermodel train didn’t see the Amtrak and collided with jt head on It derailed all the passenger cars and one almost fell to the concrete floor But I think Jeff or James was there to get it And I helped rerail all of the Amtrak superliners My brothers thinks it’s my fault that I didn’t set the switch properly but then again it’s probably me and that girls fault well mostly her because she should have been paying attention ahead of it so she didn’t collide with anything
I’m a member there Sometimes during open house a lot of times kids might come and also that’s why really you need to be careful
Anyone who has an opportunity to participate in 1 of your sessions is lucky indeed.
Nicely presented & a really cool layout 🚦🚂 👍
Visited in 2023 enjoyed.
Thanks for a great tour of an excellent club layout.😃
Highball the roll-by SMRHS! I enjoyed my visit to y'all back in 2010 and hope to come back someday in the near future! Great scenes from the Bay Area and the Sacramento Valley!
Hi John nice review. Those plates near right end on the sides don't seem to be quite legible, nor crisp as other vehicles you have shown us, even N units;🤔 please, what's your opinion on the matter. Believe the boxes on the bottom would need some further detail too. Cheers = saludos de 🇦🇷 Argentina 👍🤙🏻👏
Great tour. Very impressed with your CTC machine. some nice new things since I was there last.
After being a part of this club since 2021 this place never gets old!
Wow, the layout has changed in the last 20 years! Dallas Berry and I used to work together, and he was a great guy. Edit. Thanks for TSG presenting this.
Excellent presentation ! 17:48
Great layout…thanks for sharing..
What a phenomenal layout! The scenery in particular is very, very well done. Congratulations!
exquisite
Excellent video. Really liked the CTC board demonstration.
What a great layout. Thank you for sharing. Too bad you guys are so far away. I’d love to visit unfortunately I live in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. 🤓
Thanks 👍
I tend to be pretty rough on my rolling stock so I end up losing the the finer details on more expensive/highly detailed models. This caboose strikes me as being an ideal solution: just enough detail but not so fragile. Good enough to be realistic from my typical viewing distances
Wow, this is super cool. The magnetic turntable makes me go, why hadn't I thought of that. And the 52J story is awesome!
Thanks a lot for sharing your collection! Aprecciate it a lot as a young enthousiast, and also given that this art is slowly being forgoten by my generation, find it incredible the amount of effort you guys put into it. Great content!❤
